She is survived by her husband John and their two children, David and Judy; she is also a mother to four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In 1976, she moved to Houston, received technical training, worked for Xerox Corporation and became an office manager. After studying at a municipal college, she worked for a time as an assistant teacher in the public school system, but left that career to devote herself to the world of music entertainment, which she founded that year.
As a teenager, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and educated her children accordingly. She is also known for her devotion to her family, her faith and her love for the people of the United States of America.
She became engaged to retired U.S. Republican John Lewis (D-Ga.) in 2011 and to former Alabama Gov. Bill Lukers (R-Ala.) in 2011, whose children now form their own families. Knowles was a member of the United States House of Representatives, Senate and House of Representatives and a board member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFL-CIO). She married Luker in 2010, and all her children have since moved into the family, including her own children.
